A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Enter air demand and the duration it must be supplied.
  2. Enter compressor surplus, atmospheric absolute pressure, and initial/minimum receiver gauge pressures.
  3. Review the estimated volume and confirm pressure units; this is not pressure-vessel engineering approval.

Formula and pressure convention

V = T × C × Pa / (P1 − P2). T is minutes, C is net free-air demand in m³/min, Pa is absolute atmospheric pressure in bar, and P1/P2 are gauge pressures in bar. The gauge-pressure difference represents the usable pressure swing; Pa converts free-air demand to stored volume. Net demand is max(0, demand − compressor surplus).

Limitations and safety

This arithmetic estimate does not select a certified vessel, account for receiver temperature, controls, pressure drop, duty cycles, codes, relief devices, or installation. It is not pressure vessel design, safety advice, or code certification. Have a qualified professional verify the system and vessel.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Are P1 and P2 absolute pressures?

No. Enter both as gauge pressure. Pa is absolute atmospheric pressure.

How is compressor surplus applied?

Surplus is subtracted from demand before applying the duration. If surplus equals or exceeds demand, calculated net demand is zero.

Does this certify a receiver size?

No. It is an indicative formula result and does not assess pressure vessel safety, code compliance, or equipment rating.
