Alt Text Auditor
Paste HTML containing images. The auditor reports missing or suspicious alt text and explains why each item needs human review.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Paste HTML containing one or more images.
- Run the local audit.
- Review each suggestion in the context of the image and its surrounding content.
Selected heuristics
Reports images without an alt attribute, empty alt text, filename-like text, very long text, and redundant “image of” or “picture of” wording. It also flags repeated alt text when several images share the same value.
Human context is required
An empty alt can be correct for a decorative image, and a filename-like or long value can be intentional in a specific context. Inspect the image, nearby text, and the purpose of the image before changing it.
Local and bounded
The pasted HTML is parsed in this browser and is not uploaded or fetched. This is a practical authoring aid, not a complete accessibility or WCAG conformance test.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Does a clean result prove my images are accessible?
No. It only means these selected text heuristics found no issue. Meaning, purpose, language, surrounding content, and decorative status still need human review.
Should every empty alt be replaced?
No. An empty alt can be the right choice for a purely decorative image when the surrounding content already provides the needed information.
Does it inspect images or live pages?
No. Paste the HTML you want to review; the auditor does not fetch URLs or inspect image pixels.
