A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Enter a proposed branch name.
  2. Normalize it to lowercase kebab-case.
  3. Review the result before using it in Git.

Normalization rules

The tool applies Unicode lowercase, keeps Unicode letters and numbers, converts other runs to hyphens, collapses repeated hyphens, and trims them from both ends.

Unsupported characters

Characters that are neither Unicode letters nor numbers become separators and are not preserved. This tool does not transliterate scripts to ASCII.

Bounded output

Input is limited to 200 characters and output to 80 Unicode code points. Truncation removes a partial trailing separator and may join no additional words.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Does it transliterate Chinese or accented text?

No. Unicode letters are kept in lowercase where applicable; the tool does not transliterate to ASCII.

What happens to punctuation?

Punctuation and symbols become separators, then repeated separators are collapsed.

Is this a complete Git validation?

No. Review the result against your repository and hosting rules before use.
