Coefficient of Performance Calculator
Enter useful output and input on the same energy or power basis and in the same unit.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Choose heating or cooling mode.
- Choose one basis and unit; enter useful output and input energy or power in the same unit.
- Calculate and review COP, reciprocal ratio, and the plain-text report.
Model and units
COP = useful output / input. Both quantities must use the selected energy or power basis and the same unit. Reciprocal ratio = 1 / COP.
Zero output and interpretation
When useful output is zero, COP is zero and its reciprocal is undefined. This result is a ratio for the entered operating point; it is not a Carnot limit or a guarantee of efficiency.
Conditions
The calculation does not model equipment, operating period, measurement uncertainty, or changing conditions. Record those local conditions separately when interpreting results.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Can I mix energy and power?
No. Choose one basis and use it for both values.
What does the reciprocal mean?
It is the mathematical inverse of COP, not an efficiency guarantee.
Is this a Carnot calculation?
No. It uses only the output and input values you provide.
