Commute Emissions
Choose commute trips or annual vehicle mileage and enter your own factor with its scope.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Choose commute or annual vehicle mode.
- For commuting, enter one-way distance, trips, and a factor with its unit. For vehicles, enter annual mileage in km or mi and your factor in g CO₂e/km.
- Calculate and review the formula and factor assumptions.
User-supplied factor
No default mode, occupancy, fuel, electricity, or regional factor is applied. Use a factor that matches your distance unit and scope.
Local arithmetic
Formula: one-way distance × one-way trips × emission factor. This is an arithmetic estimate from your inputs, not an official inventory or travel recommendation. Values stay in your browser and are not uploaded or stored.
Annual vehicle mileage
Annual km = mileage × 1.609344 for miles, or mileage for km. kg CO₂e = annual km × g CO₂e/km ÷ 1,000; t CO₂e = grams ÷ 1,000,000. The vehicle factor is supplied by you; its measurement method and scope are unknown to this tool. Check whether it represents tailpipe or lifecycle emissions. No tree equivalence or offset claim is calculated.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Does this include a default transport factor?
No. Supply a factor with a stated unit and scope; the tool does not invent or select one.
Are trips round trips?
No. Distance and trip count are both one-way. Enter both legs as two one-way trips.
