Cutting Power Calculator
Enter material removal rate (mm³/min) and specific cutting force kc (N/mm²). Optional turning mode estimates chip thickness with the Kienzle model using your coefficients.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Enter MRR in mm³/min and kc in N/mm² for the direct estimate.
- Optionally choose turning mode and enter cutting speed, depth of cut, feed, approach angle, kc1, mc, and γ0 correction.
- Calculate, review the assumptions, then copy or download the report.
Formula and units
Direct estimate: Pc (kW) = MRR (mm³/min) × kc (N/mm²) ÷ 60,000. Turning Kienzle mode: h = fn × sin(KAPR); kc = kc1 × (1/h)^mc × (1 − γ0/100); Pc = vc × ap × fn × kc ÷ 60,000, where vc is m/min, ap and fn are mm, h is mm, kc1 is N/mm², and γ0 is degrees expressed as the user-entered percent correction shown in the formula.
Scope and assumptions
Estimates ideal cutting power only. Enter coefficients from an appropriate technical source for your material, tool, and operation. No material database, tool or machine rating, drive efficiency, or equipment recommendation is provided. The Kienzle option is a simplified turning model and is not a substitute for validation.
