Cycling Power Calculator

Use P = F × v for a force you supply. Optionally add total mass and road gradient as a separate gravity term. This deliberately simplified model does not estimate aerodynamic drag, wind, rolling resistance, drivetrain loss, fitness, or training needs.

Pbase = Fv. Optional Pgravity = mgv × (G/100) / √(1 + (G/100)²), with g = 9.80665 m/s².

This simplified model ignores aerodynamic drag, wind, rolling resistance, acceleration, and drivetrain losses. It does not assess your cycling ability or give training advice.

Enter force and speed. Add both mass and gradient, or leave both blank.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the resistance force in newtons.
  2. Enter speed and choose m/s, km/h, or mi/h.
  3. Optionally enter both total mass and gradient to add the gravity term.

Transparent model

Base power is Pbase = Fv. When mass m and gradient G are supplied, Pgravity = mgv × (G/100) / √(1 + (G/100)²), and Ptotal = Pbase + Pgravity. Speed is converted to m/s first; g is fixed at 9.80665 m/s².

Simplified scope

The entered force is used exactly as supplied. The calculator does not derive aerodynamic drag, wind, rolling resistance, acceleration, drivetrain loss, rider capability, effort, calories, or training advice.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Is this the power measured at the pedals?

Not necessarily. It is simplified mechanical power from the entered force and optional gravity term. Drivetrain losses and other resistance sources are excluded.
