Date Time Difference Calculator

Enter complete date-times and choose how values without an offset are interpreted. Offset-bearing values are compared as instants.

Use Z or a numeric offset for an exact instant. Local DST rules apply only when local is selected.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the start and end date-times, optionally with an offset such as Z or +05:30.
  2. Choose UTC or browser local time for values that have no offset.
  3. Calculate and review the exact elapsed seconds and a precise day/hour/minute/second breakdown.

Offsets mean instants

A Z or numeric offset is used exactly as written. The calculation subtracts the two resulting instants, so daylight-saving offset changes are included.

No hidden time-zone guess

A value without an offset is interpreted only by the selected UTC or browser-local rule. Browser-local conversion follows the device time-zone rules; skipped local clock times are rejected and repeated times may be ambiguous.

Exact elapsed duration

Results use integer seconds and show days, hours, minutes, and seconds. The tool does not convert elapsed time into calendar months or years.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

What happens when one value has an offset and the other does not?

The offset-bearing value is an instant; the offset-free value uses your selected UTC or browser-local interpretation before comparison.

Does DST change the result?

Yes when it changes the actual offsets. Offset-bearing inputs preserve their offsets; browser-local inputs use the device rules.

Can I enter a bare date?

No. Enter a complete date-time with hours and minutes; include seconds when precision requires them.

Is my data uploaded?

No. Validation and calculation run locally in your browser.
