Division Calculator
Enter a dividend, a non-zero divisor, and the number of decimal places for an exact decimal result.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Enter decimal numbers.
- Choose the output precision from 0 to 50 places.
- Read the quotient rounded half up without binary floating-point display errors.
Explicit division rules
The divisor cannot be zero. Results are rounded half up to the selected number of decimal places; trailing zeroes are preserved when they express the requested precision.
Decimal-safe local processing
Inputs are parsed as decimal strings and divided with integers in the browser, avoiding accidental binary floating-point digits. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
What happens when the divisor is zero?
The calculator rejects the calculation and shows a clear zero-divisor error.
How is rounding handled?
The next discarded digit of the exact decimal result decides: 5 or more rounds the last retained digit up, and smaller digits leave it unchanged.
Can I divide negative decimals?
Yes. A leading minus sign is accepted for either number, and half-up rounding moves a tie away from zero.
