Feed Conversion Ratio Calculator

Enter feed consumed and weight gained in the same unit to calculate FCR as feed divided by weight gained.

Use values from the same period and the same weight unit. Species and feeding system affect comparisons.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Choose one weight unit and enter feed consumed for the period.
  2. Enter the weight gained during that same period using the same unit.
  3. Calculate the FCR and compare results only when species and feeding systems are comparable.

One period and one unit

Use feed consumed and weight gained from the same period. Keep both values in the same weight unit; the ratio is unitless even though the result can be described as feed per unit of gain.

Interpret comparisons carefully

Species, age, health, environment, feed composition, and the feeding system all affect FCR. Compare results only when the conditions and measurement methods are meaningfully comparable.

A focused calculation

This calculator rejects missing, non-finite, zero, and negative values. It does not provide typical ranges, nutrition advice, productivity claims, or feed cost calculations.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

What is the FCR formula?

Feed conversion ratio equals feed consumed divided by weight gained during the same measurement period.

Do the inputs need the same unit?

Yes. Use the same unit for both values, such as kilograms and kilograms or pounds and pounds.

Is a lower FCR always better?

The ratio alone is not enough to judge performance. Species, feed, health, environment, and the feeding system affect the result, so compare like with like.
