A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Choose a starting path.
- Add a file type, name pattern, maximum depth, and optional action.
- Review the generated command and its portability notes before copying it.
Command preview only
This tool assembles text in your browser. It never executes find, reads your filesystem, or sends your inputs anywhere.
POSIX-safe input quoting
User-entered paths and patterns are quoted as single shell words. A single quote is represented as '"'"' so the value cannot change the surrounding command. NUL characters and line breaks are rejected because they cannot be represented safely in this command format.
Shell and platform scope
The generated syntax targets POSIX-style sh shells on Linux and macOS. Basic find predicates are portable, while -maxdepth, -iname, -printf, and some date behavior vary by GNU find versus BSD/macOS find. Review platform-specific options before running.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Does this run the command?
No. It only generates a command string for you to inspect and copy.
Which shells are supported?
The quoting follows POSIX sh rules and is suitable for common sh-compatible shells. The find implementation still differs between GNU/Linux and BSD/macOS.
Why are some inputs rejected?
NUL characters and line breaks cannot be represented safely as one shell argument in this builder, so they are refused.
