A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Enter total batch mass and current karat from 0 inclusive to 24 exclusive.
  2. Enter a target karat from 0 inclusive to 24 exclusive, different from current.
  3. Review the theoretical pure-gold addition or removal.

Mass-balance model

Assumes karat is the only purity measure and alloy mass contains no gold. Pure-gold fraction is K/24. It solves the mass balance for adding pure gold or removing pure gold while holding the non-gold alloy mass constant; the result is theoretical. This model cannot reach 24K or handle a pure-gold starting batch.

Not refining or assay advice

Does not account for alloy composition, melting losses, contamination, assay uncertainty, hallmark rules, or safe metalworking. Verify composition with a qualified assayer and follow appropriate workshop procedures. Local arithmetic only.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Does it identify the alloy?

No. It uses only the entered mass and karat values.

Does the result guarantee final purity?

No. It is an idealized mass-balance calculation and not an assay or production instruction.
