PREVIEW

Source Serif 4

Good typography helps a reader find the next useful idea.

System font fallback preview. The selected Google Fonts stylesheet has not been requested.

This button makes a request to fonts.googleapis.com; the browser may then request font files from fonts.gstatic.com. It is off by default.

Open selected families in Google Fonts

Each listed family is represented here as SIL Open Font License 1.1 metadata from the Google Fonts repository. Check the current family page and included weights before shipping a design.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Filter the locally stored pair suggestions by the kind of page you are designing, then select a pair.
  2. Edit the short body sample and compare the system-font fallback preview.
  3. Copy the CSS and fallback stack, or explicitly enable the Google Fonts stylesheet when you want a remote preview.

Curated ideas, not a font search engine

The page includes seven hand-curated pairs across Editorial, Product, Professional, and Developer styles. It does not query the Google Fonts Developer API, look up every available family, rank popularity, analyze a brand, or guarantee that a pair suits a particular audience.

Remote fonts are an explicit choice

The initial preview uses only system fallback fonts and makes no Google Fonts request. Choosing Preview with selected Google Fonts adds a stylesheet request to fonts.googleapis.com. After that stylesheet loads, the browser can request font files from fonts.gstatic.com and may briefly display its fallback while fonts arrive. Turn the preview off to remove this page’s stylesheet link and restore the system fallback.

CSS code and licensing scope

The copyable example uses the Google Fonts CSS v2 endpoint, requests only the weights shown by the pair, uses display=swap, and includes generic fallback stacks. The curated family metadata is limited to families whose Google Fonts repository directories include the SIL Open Font License 1.1. No font binary or third-party stylesheet is bundled with this site; confirm each current family page, weights, character coverage, and license before production use.

A browser preview, not layout approval

Font rendering, available glyphs, loading behavior, and fallback selection differ by browser and operating system. This page is useful for comparing a short sample, not for testing every language, accessibility setting, performance budget, or production layout.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Does the page contact Google Fonts as soon as it opens?

No. The initial cards, code, and preview are local. Google Fonts are requested only when you select Preview with selected Google Fonts or open the external Google Fonts link.

Do I need a Google Fonts API key?

No. This tool uses no API key and does not call the Google Fonts Developer API. Its optional preview uses the public CSS v2 stylesheet endpoint.

Are these all Google Fonts?

No. This is a small fixed list of pair ideas, not the full catalogue. It deliberately does not fetch a remote catalogue or bundle font files.

Can I use the copied CSS on a real site?

It is a starting point. Confirm the exact available weights, glyph coverage, licensing, privacy obligations, fallback behavior, and performance requirements for your own site.

Why does the remote preview first look like the system font?

The CSS uses display=swap, so the browser can show its fallback while a Google stylesheet and the matching font files load. The page states this rather than claiming an unloaded font is already visible.
