Search scans from the beginning and returns the first exact byte match, including matches across chunks. Hex needs an even number of digits; whitespace is allowed between digits. Text is encoded as UTF-8 without case folding. Patterns are limited to 4,096 bytes, or 8,192 hex digits. You can cancel a search; navigation or a new file also cancels it.
PNG, JPEG, GIF, PDF, ZIP and other recognizable leading bytes are hints only. They do not validate the entire file or prove its contents or safety.
