Insulation Roll Calculator

Enter the area to insulate, roll dimensions, and a waste allowance to estimate whole rolls for one layer or multiple identical layers, rounding each layer separately.

Each layer is rounded separately; quantities are then added. This model uses equal area and roll dimensions for every layer and does not pool surplus.

Calculations stay in this browser. Reports show full numerical values and exact fractions; display rounding never determines whole quantities.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the area to insulate in square metres.
  2. Enter the roll length and width in metres.
  3. Choose a waste allowance for cutting and fitting.

One layer

The estimate multiplies roll length by width, increases the required area by your waste percentage, divides by roll area, and rounds up to a whole roll. Single mode covers one layer. Multiple mode repeats the same area and dimensions for your layer count, rounds each layer separately, and adds whole rolls without sharing surplus.

Plan layers separately

If the design uses multiple layers, estimate each layer’s area and waste separately and add the quantities. This tool does not model staggered joints, framing, gaps, or product-specific pack coverage.

Planning estimate

This is a material estimate, not an insulation design or guarantee of thermal performance. Check the package coverage and installation guidance. Calculations run in your browser; inputs are not uploaded or stored.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Does this calculate multiple layers?

Yes, for identical layers using the explicit layer count. Every layer is rounded separately. Layers with different areas or roll dimensions must be calculated separately.

What does the waste percentage cover?

It is an allowance you choose for cutting and fitting. The calculator does not recommend a percentage.

Can I use package coverage instead of roll dimensions?

This estimate uses roll length × width. Check the package label and convert its stated coverage to equivalent dimensions or calculate separately.
