Volts at the source
Amps flowing through the cable
Ohms per selected resistance unit

Use the cable's resistance at its expected operating temperature. The calculation runs locally in your browser.

使い方

使い方

  1. Enter source voltage, load current, and the one-way cable length.
  2. Enter conductor resistance in ohms per kilometer or per 1,000 feet, then choose one-way or out-and-back conductors.
  3. Calculate the voltage drop and review the load voltage, percentage, and loop resistance.

The cable path matters

For a typical two-wire circuit, current travels out and back. Select 2 conductors and enter the one-way distance; the calculator doubles that distance when finding loop resistance. Select 1 conductor when you need a one-way resistance calculation.

Use the right resistance value

Enter the conductor resistance in the same operating conditions you are evaluating. Resistance changes with conductor material, gauge, temperature, and frequency, so a cable data sheet or engineering reference is the right source for the value.

よくある質問

あわせて知りたいこと

What is voltage drop?

Voltage drop is the reduction in voltage caused by current flowing through the cable resistance. It is calculated here as current multiplied by total circuit resistance.

Why is the default two conductors?

A common DC or single-phase circuit uses an outgoing and returning conductor. Enter the one-way cable length and the calculator accounts for both conductors.

Does this choose a wire size for me?

No. It calculates the drop for the resistance value you provide. Use applicable electrical codes and qualified engineering guidance for cable selection and safety.
