A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Focus or click the test area to start listening.
  2. Press and release keys to inspect their key, code, modifiers, location, and repeat state.
  3. Copy an event, download the JSON log, or clear the log when finished.

Focused test area only

The tester listens only while its dedicated test area has focus. It does not capture keyboard input from the page, browser, or other applications.

Useful event fields

Each keydown and keyup entry shows key, code, legacy keyCode, location, modifier states, and whether the event is repeating.

Local and bounded log

The latest 200 entries remain in memory in this page. You can copy one entry or download the current log as JSON.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Does this capture keys everywhere?

No. It listens only to the dedicated, focusable test area after you focus or click it.

Are my keystrokes uploaded?

No. The log is kept locally in this page. Do not type passwords or other sensitive information into the test area.

How many entries are kept?

The log keeps at most 200 keydown and keyup entries.

How do I stop listening?

Select Stop and clear. This removes the listeners and clears the event log.
