What JPG to PNG conversion changes
JPEG stores a compressed image; PNG stores the browser-decoded pixels with lossless PNG encoding. Converting to PNG cannot restore detail already lost in the JPG and often makes photographs larger. The page reports the actual output size so you can decide whether PNG is useful.
Pixel and file boundaries
Choose one JPG no larger than 20 MB and no larger than 10,000 pixels on either side or 40 megapixels total. The output uses the same dimensions as the decoded source and is subject to the same 10,000-pixel and 40-megapixel canvas limits.
Transparency and metadata
A JPG has no alpha channel, so the PNG output is fully opaque after decoding. The browser writes a fresh PNG and does not preserve JPEG EXIF, ICC profile, comments, thumbnails, or original compressed bytes. The selected file is processed locally and is not uploaded.

Will converting JPG to PNG improve image quality?
No. PNG can preserve the pixels decoded from the JPG without another lossy JPEG encode, but it cannot recover detail that the JPG already discarded.
Will the PNG be smaller?
Usually not for photographs. PNG compression is lossless and may produce a larger file; compare the displayed byte sizes before downloading.
Can a JPG become transparent?
No. JPG has no transparency information, so the converted PNG is fully opaque.
Does the converter upload my image or keep metadata?
