kW to Amps Calculator
Enter real power, voltage, phase count, and power factor to calculate current using the appropriate single or three-phase formula.
Choose the circuit phase and enter real power, voltage, and power factor. Power alone cannot determine current.
Single phase: I = 1000 × P ÷ (V × PF) · Three phase: I = 1000 × P ÷ (√3 × VLL × PF)
Current
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Enter real power in kW and voltage.
- Choose single phase or three phase and enter a power factor greater than 0 and at most 1.
- Calculate and review the current in amps.
Formula and boundary
Single phase uses I = 1000P ÷ (V × PF). Three phase uses I = 1000P ÷ (√3 × VLL × PF), where VLL is line-to-line voltage. Power, voltage, phase, and power factor are required.
Local estimate
This browser-only calculator uses the RMS voltage you enter. It does not measure a circuit or provide electrical safety or engineering sign-off.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Can I calculate amps from kW alone?
No. You also need voltage, phase configuration, and power factor.
Should power factor be 80 or 0.8?
Enter 0.8 for 80%. The field accepts a decimal greater than 0 and at most 1.
What voltage is used for three phase?
Enter line-to-line voltage (VLL) for the three-phase formula.
