Marine Leeway Estimate Calculator

Apply a user-supplied leeway angle to heading to calculate a water-track bearing.

In-browser processingNo account requiredPrivacy details ↗

Water track = normalize(heading ± leeway). Add for starboard, subtract for port. Heading is 0–360°, leeway is 0–180°, and output is normalized to 0–360° excluding 360°.

This uses your stated leeway; it does not estimate wind effects. The result is a track through water, not course over ground. Currents and other effects are excluded. This is an arithmetic demonstration, not safe-navigation advice.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Enter heading, your leeway angle and its side.
  2. Calculate the result.
  3. Copy the report or download it as TXT.

Formula and units

Water track = normalize(heading ± leeway). Add for starboard, subtract for port. Heading is 0–360°, leeway is 0–180°, and output is normalized to 0–360° excluding 360°.
