Mileage Unit Converter
Enter one positive value and convert it with the correct US or Imperial gallon distinction.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Choose US MPG, UK MPG, L/100 km, or km/L.
- Enter a finite value greater than zero.
- Review the equivalent fuel economy or fuel consumption values.
Economy and consumption
US MPG and UK MPG are fuel economy measures: distance per gallon. L/100 km is fuel consumption: fuel volume per distance. km/L is fuel economy using litres. Higher MPG or km/L means better economy; lower L/100 km means better economy.
Exact gallon assumptions
One US gallon is 3.785411784 litres and one Imperial gallon is 4.54609 litres. The converter uses 235.214583 for US MPG ↔ L/100 km and 282.481 for UK MPG ↔ L/100 km, with normal displayed rounding.
Input limits
Values must be finite, numeric, and greater than zero. The tool rejects empty, malformed, zero, and negative values. It performs arithmetic locally and does not retrieve vehicle specifications.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Are US MPG and UK MPG the same?
No. A UK gallon is larger, so the same vehicle has a higher numerical UK MPG than US MPG.
Is L/100 km economy or consumption?
It is fuel consumption. A lower number means less fuel used per 100 kilometres.
What happens with zero or negative input?
The value is rejected because these units require a positive finite quantity.
