Mixed Number Converter
Enter a signed whole part, a non-negative numerator, and a positive denominator. For improper-to-mixed conversion, only the sign of the whole part is used; its magnitude is ignored.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Enter a signed whole part, a non-negative numerator, and a denominator greater than zero.
- Choose the direction. Mixed-number input requires numerator < denominator; improper-fraction input uses only the whole-part sign.
- Read the exact fraction or mixed number. A negative whole part makes the complete value negative.
Sign and input rules
Uses BigInt integer arithmetic. The denominator must be positive. In mixed-to-improper mode, the whole-part sign applies to the entire mixed number. In improper-to-mixed mode, only that sign is used and the whole-part magnitude is ignored. A zero remainder is shown as an integer.
Input bounds
Each integer field is limited to 1,000 decimal digits. The numerator must be non-negative and the denominator positive. Mixed-number input additionally requires numerator < denominator.

GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
How is a negative mixed number represented?
In mixed-to-improper mode, whole = -2, numerator = 1, denominator = 3 gives −7/3. In improper-to-mixed mode, whole = -1, numerator = 7, denominator = 3 gives −2 1/3; only the whole-part sign is used.
Can the denominator be zero or negative?
No. Enter a denominator greater than zero.
