Uses browser cryptographic randomness. IDs are random and are not checked for uniqueness.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Set an ID length from 1 to 128 and a batch size from 1 to 100.
  2. Keep the URL-friendly alphabet or enter 2 to 256 unique characters.
  3. Generate, then copy the list or download it as a text file.

Cryptographic randomness with unbiased selection

The generator uses Web Crypto random bytes. It rejects out-of-range byte values before choosing an alphabet symbol, avoiding the uneven distribution caused by a simple modulo operation.

Configurable, bounded output

Choose 2–256 distinct Unicode characters, an ID length from 1–128, and a batch from 1–100. The URL-friendly default alphabet matches Nano ID’s common URL-safe character set.

Random does not mean guaranteed unique

Generated IDs are random identifiers. This page does not check them against a database or guarantee that a collision can never occur; applications should enforce uniqueness where required.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Are the IDs generated securely?

The generator uses the browser Web Crypto API. Browsers without a secure random source cannot generate IDs here.

Can I use a custom alphabet?

Yes. Enter 2–256 distinct characters. Duplicate characters are rejected so each symbol keeps an equal selection chance.

Are generated IDs guaranteed to be unique?

No. Random generation makes collisions unlikely for suitable settings but cannot guarantee uniqueness. Check against your data store when uniqueness is required.
