Enter a finite temperature. Gas mark and fan values are practical page conventions and are rounded.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Enter a finite temperature and choose °F, °C, or gas mark.
  2. Read exact and conventional settings; conventional values are rounded recipe conventions.
  3. Enable fan oven to subtract about 20°C from the conventional Celsius setting.

Gas mark convention

Gas mark N is treated as 250 + 25N °F; gas ¼ = 225°F and gas ½ = 250°F. This page convention supports fractional marks.

Fan oven convention

Fan adjustment subtracts 20°C from the conventional Celsius setting. This is a practical approximation, not a physical constant; follow your oven manual.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Why show exact and conventional values?

Exact arithmetic and tidy recipe dial settings are different. Both are useful, so the tool shows both.

Does fan mode change gas mark?

No. The fan option reports a reduced Celsius setting; gas marks are not adjusted here.

Are values exact?

Fahrenheit/Celsius arithmetic is exact before display rounding. Conventional and fan values are page conventions.
