Pasture Growth Rate Calculator

Divide measured additional dry matter by pasture area and elapsed days to calculate an observed average growth rate.

In-browser processingNo account requiredPrivacy details ↗

Average growth rate (kg DM/ha/day) = additional dry matter (kg DM) ÷ area (ha) ÷ days.

This is an observed arithmetic average for your measurement interval, not a prediction of future growth or a grazing recommendation. Use measured additional dry matter for the same area and interval; do not substitute fresh weight or standing biomass.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Enter measured additional dry matter in kilograms of dry matter, not fresh forage weight.
  2. Enter the corresponding area and elapsed days, both greater than zero.
  3. Calculate, then copy the report or download TXT.

Calculation

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Can I enter fresh grass weight?

No. Fresh weight includes water. Supply additional dry matter measured or independently determined as kg DM.

Does the result show the rate on every day?

No. Dividing by elapsed days gives an interval average. Daily conditions and future growth can differ.
