PDF Page Numbering

Choose a PDF and number the pages after the skipped prefix. Review and download the new copy.

Numbering semantics: Skip an integer number of opening pages from 0 to pageCount − 1. The first remaining page receives start, then each numbered page increments by one. Start is an integer from 1 to 1,000,000; the last assigned number may exceed that start limit. The N / last number denominator is start + numberedPages − 1. Page N always uses the English ASCII word Page in every interface language.

Text and placement: Uses existing pdf-lib 1.17.1 and standard Helvetica, finite font size 6–36 pt and fixed 24 pt margins. Six header/footer positions use the visible CropBox/MediaBox intersection and 0/90/180/270-degree page rotation. Non-unit UserUnit, invalid geometry or insufficient label width/height is rejected. No Unicode font embedding. Existing page content is not rasterized; PDF text is overlaid, which can cover existing content.

Local rewrite limits: One PDF, 50 MiB and 1–500 pages. Password-protected, encrypted, signed, XFA, damaged and unsupported PDFs are rejected. Rewriting may remove unsupported advanced features and changes PDF bytes; retain your original. Local processing, no upload or storage. Cancel or changing input invalidates unfinished results.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

What does the denominator mean?

It is the final assigned number, not the physical number of pages. For start 10 and three numbered pages, it is 12.

Is the original file changed?

No. Download a newly written copy. Review its layout and features before using it.
