Pile Capacity Calculator

Calculate a simple single-pile axial ultimate resistance from your own base and segment inputs.

In-browser processingNo account requiredPrivacy details ↗

Enter pile base area, user-supplied unit base resistance, pile perimeter and each soil segment length and unit shaft resistance.

Shaft segments

Single-pile axial model: Qult = Qb + Qs; Qb = Ab × qb; Qs = P × Σ(Li × fsi). You choose every geometry value, unit resistance and segment. No soil correlations, resistance factors, group effects, settlement, dragload, groundwater, installation effects, structural resistance or code checks are inferred. This calculator makes no design recommendation.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Enter pile base area, user-supplied unit base resistance, pile perimeter and each soil segment length and unit shaft resistance.
  2. The model calculates Qb = Ab × qb and Qs = perimeter × sum(Li × fsi), then Qult = Qb + Qs. Use consistent units throughout.
  3. Calculate

The equation is a general additive decomposition of axial pile resistance described in FHWA, Design and Construction of Driven Pile Foundations (FHWA-NHI-16-009, 2016), Chapter 7. This page does not reproduce design tables or implement the manual’s full methods; all segment resistance inputs must come from an appropriate project method and qualified review.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Does this select a pile or establish design capacity?

No. It only sums the supplied base and shaft resistance values. It does not derive soil parameters or apply design checks.
