Power Usage Effectiveness Calculator

Calculate PUE, infrastructure overhead, DCiE, and savings against a user-entered target using facility and IT readings with matching units, period, and boundary.

In-browser processingNo account requiredPrivacy details ↗

Facility and IT readings must share unit, period, and boundary.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Enter facility and IT measurements in consistent units.
  2. Enter a target PUE if you want a comparison.
  3. Calculate and review the formula, scope, and assumptions.

Method and scope

DOE FEMP defines PUE as facility energy divided by IT equipment energy. Compare energy readings for the same period and facility boundary; power readings must represent the same moment or averaging interval. This tool calculates your inputs and does not assess equipment or management actions.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

How is PUE calculated?

PUE = facility energy ÷ IT equipment energy. DCiE is IT equipment energy ÷ facility energy and is usually shown as a percentage.

Can I compare readings from different periods?

No. Facility and IT data need the same period, units, and measurement boundary; power readings also need the same moment or averaging interval.

Does this recommend equipment or management actions?

No. It reports calculations from your inputs only and does not recommend equipment or operations.
