A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the quote and attribution, then add a source if you want one.
  2. Select Format quote to generate the Markdown blockquote.
  3. Copy the result for a README, article, note, or social post.

Preserves your quote wording

The tool trims surrounding whitespace, normalizes line endings, and closes an obvious unmatched opening quotation mark. It does not rewrite, paraphrase, spell-check, or reorder the words in your quote.

Consistent Markdown attribution

The generated result uses a Markdown blockquote, an em dash before the author, and an italicized source when one is provided. Markdown characters inside your fields stay as entered.

Local and private

Formatting and copying happen in your browser. Your quote, author, and source are not uploaded, stored, or sent to a server.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Does the tool rewrite my quote?

No. It trims outer whitespace, normalizes line endings, and may add a missing closing quotation mark when the quote begins with a quotation mark. The wording stays the same.

Where does the source appear?

When provided, the source appears after the author on the attribution line and is wrapped in Markdown italics.

Which dash is used before the author?

The formatter uses an em dash (—) with a following space for a consistent attribution line.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The result is generated and copied locally in your browser.
