Random Student Picker
Paste one name per line, choose how many to pick, and draw locally for a classroom activity.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Enter one student name per line.
- Choose a count no greater than the number of names.
- Pick a fresh set and review the result.
Name handling
Blank or whitespace-only lines are ignored. Other lines stay exactly as entered, including surrounding whitespace and duplicate names; duplicate lines are separate entries.
Randomness and fairness
Selection uses an unbiased Fisher–Yates shuffle with browser Web Crypto when available. It is intended for ordinary classroom use, not stakes, audited draws, or security decisions; fairness is limited to this browser session and environment.
Local limits
Input is limited to 100,000 UTF-16 code units and 10,000 retained lines. Nothing is uploaded.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Can the same name appear twice?
Yes. Each non-empty line is an entry, so duplicate lines remain separate entries.
Is selection with replacement?
No. A picked entry is removed before the next pick.
Is this suitable for a contest?
No. It is a classroom convenience tool, not an auditable or certified draw.
