A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Enter the stated measurements in the specified units.
- Select Calculate to evaluate the formula.
- Review the result and the model limitations.
Formula and scope
For a uniform conductor, ρ = RA/L. R is resistance in ohms, A is cross-sectional area in square metres, and L is length in metres; ρ is in Ω·m. Independent reference: OpenStax University Physics Volume 2, Resistivity and Resistance (https://openstax.org/books/university-physics-volume-2/pages/9-3-resistivity-and-resistance). Requires positive finite R, A, and L. Assumes a homogeneous, uniform conductor under steady direct current; temperature dependence and geometry variation are outside scope.
