Solar Panel Series and Parallel Calculator
Enter the maximum-power-point voltage and current for one identical panel, then choose the number of panels in each series string and the number of parallel strings.
- Ideal array voltage
- Ideal array current
- Ideal array power
- Total panels
Arithmetic estimate only. Assumes identical panels at the same maximum-power point. No cold-weather Voc, electrical safety, inverter headroom or limits, or product recommendations.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Enter one panel’s Vmp in volts and Imp in amps.
- Enter a positive whole number of panels per series string and parallel strings.
- Calculate and review the ideal array values and assumptions.
Ideal DC arithmetic
For identical panels operating at the same maximum-power point, voltage is Vmp × series count, current is Imp × parallel count, power is voltage × current, and total panel count is series count × parallel count.
Scope and limitations
This is an arithmetic estimate only. It does not calculate cold-weather open-circuit voltage, electrical safety, inverter limits or headroom, wiring losses, mismatch, or product recommendations.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
What changes in series?
The ideal array voltage is multiplied by the panels per series string.
What changes in parallel?
The ideal array current is multiplied by the number of parallel strings.
Does this size a real solar installation?
No. It uses an ideal identical-panel model at one operating point and does not check equipment limits or safety.
