Thermal Resistance Calculator
Enter 1–20 material layers and their thickness and conductivity. The calculation adds only the layers you provide.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Choose a thickness unit and enter 1–20 layers.
- Enter each layer thickness and thermal conductivity.
- Optionally enter area and signed temperature difference.
- Calculate and review the layer table and plain-text report.
Model and units
For each layer, Rarea = thickness / k. Thickness is converted to metres; conductivity is in W/(m·K). Total Rarea is the sum and U = 1 / total Rarea.
Optional area and heat flow
If area A is supplied, R = total Rarea / A in K/W. If signed ΔT is also supplied, Q = A × ΔT / total Rarea in W; a negative value indicates the opposite heat-flow direction.
Scope
Only entered material layers are included. Surface films, thermal bridges, contact resistance, and other effects are not added. This calculation is not construction guidance.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Are material conductivity values provided?
No. Enter a value from a source you select.
What happens when total resistance is zero?
The U-value and heat flow are reported as undefined where their denominator is zero.
Are surface films or thermal bridges included?
No, only the layers in your table are included.
