Tractor Drawbar Power Estimate
Calculate drawbar power from supplied draft force and travel speed, in kW and mechanical horsepower.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Enter your values and units.
- Calculate the result.
- Copy or download the calculation.
Formula and units
Drawbar kW = draft (kN) × speed (km/h) / 3.6. Mechanical hp = kW / 0.7456999, using NIST’s published 745.6999 W/hp factor.
Scope
This is drawbar power, not engine rated power. Transmission and traction losses are excluded. Mechanical horsepower differs from metric and electric horsepower. The tool does not recommend tractor selection or matching.

GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Can I use the result as engine rated power?
No. It describes force times ground speed at the drawbar; losses and tractor matching require separate assessment.
What happens at zero force or speed?
Either zero input gives zero drawbar power. Positive values outside the numeric range are rejected.
