Enter the screen diagonal and your chosen distance-to-diagonal ratio. The result is a proportional value, not a universal comfort recommendation.
Enter your own ratio. This is not a universal comfort-distance recommendation.
Proportional viewing distance:
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Enter the screen diagonal and choose a unit.
- Enter the distance-to-diagonal ratio you want to use.
- Read the proportional viewing distance in the same unit.
User-defined ratio
The calculator does not choose a recommended ratio. Enter the ratio you want to apply, such as a value from your own room plan or a source you trust.
Proportional conversion only
The result is screen diagonal multiplied by your ratio. It does not claim a universally comfortable, safe, optimal, or medically appropriate viewing distance.
Same unit
The output keeps the diagonal unit you select. It does not convert inches, centimetres, or other units.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Does this recommend a comfortable distance?
No. It only applies the ratio you enter; there is no single universal ratio for every viewer, room, display, or content type.
What does the ratio mean?
It is viewing distance divided by screen diagonal. For example, 1.5 means the distance is one and a half times the diagonal.
Can I mix units?
No. Enter the ratio as a unitless number; the result remains in the selected diagonal unit.
