Local Canvas processing
The source is decoded and resized entirely in this browser. The result is newly encoded, so source metadata, color profiles, animation, and exact compressed bytes are not preserved.
Interpolation is not detail recovery
Smooth interpolation can make enlarged edges look cleaner, but it cannot recreate detail that was absent from the source. Pixelated keeps hard pixel edges; smooth uses the browser’s image smoothing quality setting.
Practical limits
Inputs are limited to 20 MB, 10,000 pixels per side, and 40 megapixels. Outputs are limited to 12,000 pixels per side, 64 megapixels, and an estimated 256 MB RGBA canvas allocation. Large outputs may still be slow or unavailable on low-memory devices.

Common questions
Does this add real image detail?
No. It resamples existing pixels locally; it is not an AI super-resolution tool.
What is the difference between smooth and pixelated?
Smooth uses browser interpolation for continuous images. Pixelated preserves hard edges and is useful for pixel art.
Can I enter an exact output size?
Yes. Switch to Target size and enter the desired width and height in pixels.
Will animation and metadata be preserved?
No. Canvas creates a new still image and does not preserve metadata, color profiles, animation, or original compression.
