UUID Version and Timestamp Inspector
Read a UUID’s bit layout in your browser, including its version, variant, and supported embedded time.
Enter a hyphenated UUID or 32 hexadecimal digits. Processing stays in your browser.

- Node ID (v1)
1: Gregorian time + node; 2: DCE security; 3: MD5 name-based; 4: random; 5: SHA-1 name-based; 6: reordered Gregorian time; 7: Unix time; 8: custom.
v1 may expose generation time and a node ID; a node ID is not proof of a device MAC address. v7 exposes Unix milliseconds.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Paste a canonical hyphenated UUID or 32 hexadecimal digits.
- Select Inspect UUID to view its normalized form, variant, and version.
- For RFC variant v1 or v7, review the decoded UTC time and raw timestamp.
Versions and special values
Recognizes RFC variant versions 1–8 and the all-zero nil and all-one max UUIDs. Other variants and reserved version bits are reported without treating them as RFC versions.
Supported time decoding
v1 uses the Gregorian UUID epoch and displays seven fractional-second digits. v7 uses its first 48 bits as Unix milliseconds. This tool does not decode time from other versions, including v6.
Privacy and interpretation
v1 may expose generation time and a node ID; the node ID does not prove a device MAC address. v7 exposes milliseconds. Parsing does not prove uniqueness, origin, or authenticity. Input stays in your browser.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Which formats are accepted?
Exactly 32 hexadecimal digits, optionally separated in the canonical 8-4-4-4-12 pattern. Uppercase and lowercase are accepted; surrounding whitespace is trimmed.
Is the timestamp a verified creation time?
No. It is the time encoded in the bits. A UUID can be fabricated, and parsing does not verify its source or uniqueness.
