Local format and check-digit check only. It cannot confirm tax registration or current validity.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Enter a VAT number with or without spaces or punctuation.
  2. Choose Validate VAT to normalize the value and check its supported country format.
  3. Use a passing result only as a format check; confirm registration and current validity with the relevant tax authority.

Local format check

This tool normalizes the input in your browser, recognizes only the country formats listed on the page, and applies a documented check-digit rule where one is implemented. It does not call a tax service.

A passing result is not tax registration proof

A valid format or check digit cannot confirm that a VAT number is registered, active, belongs to a person or business, or is eligible for a transaction. Confirm those facts with the relevant tax authority.

Explicit support scope

The validator currently covers common EU country prefixes and their published local formats. Country formats change and some countries use additional registration classes; unsupported or ambiguous inputs are reported instead of guessed.

GOOD TO KNOW

No. It only performs local format and, where implemented, check-digit checks. Use the relevant tax authority for registration status.

Are my VAT numbers uploaded?

No. Normalization and validation happen locally in your browser, and the page does not store the input.
