Zero-Based Budget Calculator
Every category is user-named. Add 1–100 categories; no category amounts are suggested.
Unallocated = income − total allocated; share = amount ÷ income × 100. Shares are undefined when income is zero.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Enter monthly income and a three-letter currency code.
- Add between 1 and 100 categories, give each a name, and enter its monthly amount. Categories are entirely user-defined.
- Review the total allocation, signed unallocated balance, and each category’s share of income.
User-defined categories
Add 1–100 categories and name each one yourself. No standard category list or spending split is supplied. Savings, debt payments or other purposes can be entered as categories if you choose.
Signed balance
Total allocated is the exact sum of the entered amounts. Unallocated = monthly income − total allocated. A positive result remains to assign; a negative result means allocations exceed income. No entered negative amount is silently changed to zero.
Shares and limits
When income is greater than zero, each share is category amount ÷ income × 100, and total share is total allocated ÷ income × 100. With zero income, those percentages are undefined. This arithmetic checks the entered plan; it does not judge whether amounts are realistic or provide financial advice.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Can I use my own category names?
Yes. Add 1–100 rows and enter a name and monthly amount for each. The calculator does not impose a category list.
What does a negative unallocated balance mean?
The category amounts add up to more than the income entered. The signed difference is preserved so the over-allocation is visible.
What happens when monthly income is zero?
Amounts can still be totaled, but category and total shares are undefined because they divide by zero.
