Assumes a balanced equation and entered molar masses. Does not calculate actual yield.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Enter at least one reactant and one product with a coefficient and molar mass.
  2. Mark the product or products counted as the target product.
  3. Calculate atom economy from target product mass divided by total product mass.

Transparent calculation contract

For the entered balanced equation, each item contributes coefficient × molar mass. Atom economy = total target-product molar mass ÷ total product molar mass × 100%. Enter the molar masses you want to use.

Scope and limits

This tool does not parse chemical formulas, identify substances, validate balancing, or use a built-in substance database. It calculates theoretical atom economy only and does not calculate actual reaction yield.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Do I need a balanced equation?

Yes. The calculation assumes that the coefficients you enter belong to a balanced equation.

Can I select more than one target product?

Yes. Select every product that should be included in the target-product numerator.
