Audio Cable Capacitance Calculator

Enter cable capacitance per unit length, cable length, user-specified series resistance and signal frequency. The RC result is an ideal unloaded low-pass estimate.

In-browser processingNo account requiredPrivacy details ↗

Ctotal = capacitance per length × length. For a series-R, shunt-C low-pass model, fc=1/(2πRC), |H|=1/√(1+(f/fc)²), and phase=−atan(f/fc). Source/load impedance, cable inductance and distributed effects are excluded.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Enter capacitance per metre, cable length, series resistance and frequency.
  2. Read total capacitance and the unloaded RC low-pass estimate.
  3. Treat the estimate as a simplified model without source/load impedance or distributed cable effects.

Model scope

Total capacitance is c per unit length times cable length. Frequency response treats the cable as a lumped shunt capacitor driven through the user-entered series resistance: H(jω)=1/(1+jωRC). It omits source/load impedance, inductance, distributed effects and connector capacitance.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Does the calculator know my amplifier output impedance?

No. Enter a chosen series resistance; source and load impedances are not modeled separately.

Is the cutoff a cable-only specification?

No. It is the ideal RC corner for the entered resistance and total cable capacitance.
