Bandwidth Calculator

Calculate any one of transfer size, bandwidth, and time from the other two values with explicit bit, byte, SI, and IEC units.

In-browser processingNo account requiredPrivacy details ↗

Enter exactly two values; the third is calculated. Bandwidth uses decimal bit/s. Bytes and bits are kept distinct.

Use SI k/M/G = 1,000 and IEC Ki/Mi/Gi = 1,024. Values must be finite and greater than zero.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Enter exactly two of transfer size, bandwidth, and time.
  2. Choose units carefully: bandwidth is decimal bit/s; transfer can use bits, bytes, SI, or IEC units.
  3. Calculate the missing value locally and review the unit labels.

Three-value relationship

Transfer = bandwidth × time. The calculator solves the missing value from exactly two positive finite inputs.

Bits, bytes, SI, and IEC

Bandwidth units are decimal bit/s. Transfer units distinguish bits from bytes; SI prefixes use powers of 1,000 and IEC prefixes use powers of 1,024.

Local arithmetic only

This page performs arithmetic from your inputs. It does not measure network speed, latency, or actual transfer performance.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Does this test my connection?

No. It is a calculator only; it does not perform network requests or speed tests.

Why are bit and byte units different?

One byte equals eight bits. Bandwidth is conventionally shown in bit/s, while file sizes are often shown in bytes.

What is the difference between MB and MiB?

MB is 1,000,000 bytes; MiB is 1,048,576 bytes.
