Bitcoin Base58 alphabet

This tool uses 123456789ABCDEFGHJKLMNPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijkmnopqrstuvwxyz. The alphabet omits 0, O, I, and l to reduce visual confusion. Leading zero bytes are preserved as leading 1 characters.

Raw Base58 only

The tool converts UTF-8 text bytes and does not add or verify a Base58Check checksum, version byte, wallet address, or other application-specific structure. Use the same Base58 variant as the system that will consume the result.

Local conversion limits

Encoding and decoding run in your browser. Input is limited to 50,000 characters; decoded data must be valid UTF-8 text to display.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Is this Base58Check?

No. It is raw Base58 using the Bitcoin alphabet. No checksum or version byte is added or verified.

Why are some letters missing?

The Bitcoin Base58 alphabet omits 0, O, I, and l because they can look similar in some fonts.

Can I decode arbitrary binary data?

This text tool displays decoded bytes only when they form valid UTF-8 text. It does not produce a binary file.
