Calculate Binary Bitwise NOT
Enter a binary bit string and width to calculate its fixed-width bitwise complement. The value is never interpreted as signed.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Enter only 0 and 1 characters.
- Choose a width that is at least the input length.
- Calculate to invert every bit, including zero padding to the chosen width.
Fixed-width complement
The input is left-padded with zeroes to the selected width, then each 0 becomes 1 and each 1 becomes 0. The output always has exactly that width.
No signed interpretation
This is a bitwise operation on a validated bit string. It does not infer a sign bit, signed integer, or two’s-complement value.
Local calculation
Validation and complementation run locally in your browser. No input is uploaded or stored.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Does NOT produce a negative number?
No signed number is produced. The result is the fixed-width inverted bit string only.
Why does the width matter?
A bitwise complement depends on how many positions exist. Leading zeroes are included before inversion, so the selected width is preserved.
What inputs are accepted?
Use a non-empty string containing only 0 and 1, up to 10,000 bits, and choose a width from 1 to 10,000 that fits it.
