dotenv Generator
Paste simple key/value records and comments, then generate deterministic .env text without uploading your data.
Maximum 100,000 characters and 5,000 lines. Processing stays in your browser.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Enter one record per line as KEY=VALUE or a comment beginning with #.
- Choose whether values are quoted and how duplicate keys are handled.
- Generate, review, and copy or download the .env text.
Input grammar
Each nonempty line is a comment beginning with # or a key/value record. Keys must match [A-Za-z_][A-Za-z0-9_]*; the first unescaped equals sign separates the value. Blank lines are preserved.
Quoting and duplicates
Generated values use double quotes with backslash, double quote, newline, carriage return, and tab escaped. Duplicate keys can keep the first, keep the last, or be reported as an error. No variable expansion or command substitution is performed.
Local-only limits
Processing stays in your browser. Input is limited to 100,000 characters and 5,000 lines. The tool does not load files, resolve references, validate framework-specific dotenv dialects, or contact a server.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Does it expand variables?
No. Values are emitted literally; references such as ${HOME} are not evaluated.
What happens to duplicate keys?
Choose first-wins, last-wins, or an error before generating.
