EU Vibration A(8) Calculator
Use measured, appropriately frequency-weighted task acceleration and actual exposure hours for one day. This educational estimate cannot determine occupational health, legal compliance, or fitness for work.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Choose hand-arm or whole-body vibration.
- Enter measured acceleration and exposure hours for up to five non-overlapping tasks; leave unused rows completely blank.
- Calculate A(8) and review the EU numerical reference comparison.
Formula and EU references
A(8) = √(Σ aᵢ² × Tᵢ / 8). Acceleration is in m/s² and duration in hours. Hand-arm EAV/ELV: 2.5/5 m/s²; whole-body: 0.5/1.15 m/s².
Measurement scope
Hand-arm input must be the measured frequency-weighted vibration total value. Whole-body input must be the appropriate measured frequency-weighted acceleration including applicable axis factors. This tool does not combine axes, assess shocks or VDV, or infer acceleration from a phone sensor or equipment model.
Input limits
Input limits for this calculator: acceleration 0–1,000 m/s², each entered duration greater than 0 and at most 24 hours, and total non-overlapping duration at most 24 hours. These are input limits, not legal or health limits.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Does a result below EAV mean the work is safe?
No. This is only a comparison for the measured tasks entered. Measurement quality, omitted exposure, national rules, other assessment methods and individual health are outside its scope.
