A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Select the bin shape.
  2. Enter the dimensions for that shape and a positive feed density.
  3. Review geometric volume and estimated tonnes.

Formula and scope

Cylinder volume = π × (diameter ÷ 2)² × height. Rectangular hopper approximation = length × width × (straight-sided depth + hopper depth ÷ 3). Tonnes = volume × feed density ÷ 1,000.

Limitations

The hopper taper is approximated and actual usable capacity is lower due to headspace, bridging, rat-holing, and incomplete filling. Feed density varies; check the manufacturer rating where available.

Local calculation

Values are processed in this browser. The tool does not recommend feed density.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

What density should I use?

Enter a density from the feed supplier for the specific meal, pellet, or rolled cereal.

Is this the rated usable capacity?

No. It is a geometric fill estimate and may exceed the usable or discharged amount.
