A top-level array produces one record per element; an object, string, number, boolean or null produces one record. An empty array produces zero records.

Input and output: 1 MiB UTF-8 each; maximum 10,000 records and 128 nesting levels. JSON.parse and JSON.stringify retain JSON types and escape string line breaks. JavaScript number precision applies; overflowing numbers are rejected. Duplicate object keys retain the last value. Whitespace, number spelling and negative zero are normalized.
