Keep First N Characters
Paste text, choose a whole-number limit, and keep that many Unicode code points from the start of the text.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Enter up to 100,000 UTF-16 characters.
- Choose a whole-number limit from 0 to 100,000.
- Keep the first N code points, then review or copy the result.
Unicode code points
The tool counts code points with Array.from. A displayed character can consist of several code points, so an extended grapheme such as a letter with a combining mark may be split at the limit.
Whole-text operation
The limit applies to the complete input string, including spaces and line breaks. The input is limited to 100,000 UTF-16 code units and is processed in this browser.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Does the limit count visible characters?
It counts Unicode code points, not grapheme clusters. Some visible symbols are made of multiple code points.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The operation runs locally in your browser.
