Marine Engine Fuel Comparison Calculator
Compare arithmetic time, fuel and cost for two engines over the same distance using your rates and speeds.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Enter one distance, fuel price per litre and currency for both engines.
- Enter each engine burn rate and positive constant speed.
- Calculate A, B and B minus A, then copy or download the report.
Formula and units
For each engine: hours = distance nmi ÷ speed kn; fuel L = hours × burn L/h; cost = fuel L × price/L. Differences = B − A.
Scope
Use comparable measurements and one currency. Constant-rate arithmetic excludes changing load, wind, tide, currents and other running costs. It is not a performance, purchase or passage safety recommendation.

GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Do negative differences mean engine B is better?
No. A negative difference only means the entered B result is lower. This tool makes no performance recommendation.
